The Siegfried Sassoon - Muscle Beach / The Al Gore Rhythm 7"

The Siegfried Sassoon are pop-rock/beep-groovers (woah I just made up a cool genre) who formed in Chertsey. I started listening to TSS when I got hold of a copy of their self-released EP 'Electrocuted Means Dead' back when I was in college. They seemed to stand out from the crowd of half-arsed/lame bands that were really flooding the gigs I was going to at the time and this really excited me so I went to a few of their shows. These guys have interesting textures, catchy melodies and creative lyrics.. they seem to dig robots!!!

Anyway, a few years down the line now and they've released their debut 7" - Muscle Beach/The Al Gore-Rhythm. I got my copy a few weeks ago and it sounds lovely! Complete with brass harmonies and vocoders; the band are joined by Laura Mary-Carter (Blood Red Shoes) for the second A-side: 'The Al Gore Rhythm' which is a great mathy-pop track. There are some great little riffs in here amongst intricate (but tasteful) guitar work along with an epic sing along chorus! fuck yeaaaaa.

I highly reccomend going to see TSS live, such a vibrant and different sound from the dreary, muddy-guitar, confused unsigned bands i've seen over the years. This might be your thing, might not - but have a peep at their myspace and see what you think (some of the tracks from their older EP are also up there: check out 'I, Galactico' - a fucking great unreleased track). If you like it, get hold of a 7" before they're gone!

The band have produced a video for both tracks, here's one, go to their myspace for the other!

O+S (O Plus S) - Permanently scarred, but in a good way

This track is such a perfect blend of electronica, semi-scuzzy rock bass, hyponotic female vocals a-la My Bloody Valentine and insistent beats that I'm finding it hard to concentrate whilst writing. A superb piece of contemporary music from O+S who have joined the Saddle Creek stable stateside and released their debut album in March. I've also included another diamond cut from the album called "We Do What We Want To" and it's simply mesmerising. Check out their MySpace to hear some diverse tunes and get excited about your favourite new band...well, for this week at least ey?!
